The streets are packed with numerous vendors offering many Italian delicacies. Live entertainment, music, and fun contests take place all weekend long, too. Events include:
Traditional Procession of Saints: Sunday, from 11 AM to noon, the traditional St. Paul Parish procession of Saints takes place. The purpose is to serve as a reminder of the importance of community. The procession pauses to give blessings by sprinkling Holy Water. It begins at Saint Mary Magdalen de’ Pazzi Church and concludes at St. Paul Catholic Church.
John Marzano Half Ball Tournament: This annual tournament takes place in the schoolyard at Christopher Columbus Charter School, with 5-person teams participating in this traditional South Philadelphia street game. The event starts Saturday, May 19 at 9 AM.
Grease Pole Climbing Competition: The Albero Della Cuccagna is an age-old tradition consisting of teams trying to climb to the top of a greased pole to win prizes like meats, cheeses, and money. This runs on both days and begins at noon. The 30-foot pole can be found at the 9th and Montrose Piazza.
Beyond these events, don’t forget to visit the live entertainment stages, craft areas, family event areas, and of course, fill up on some of the best food you can find.
