There’s nothing like celebrating our country’s independence in the place where it all began. The 2018 Wawa Welcome America Celebration is back once again this year, with seven days of over 50 free events across the city.
From concerts to parties to movie nights to fireworks, celebrate America’s birthday in America’s birthplace!
Special Events and What to Know
When is it? Wawa Welcome America runs from June 28th through July 4th, with many events taking place across the city.
Where can I find these events? Just about anywhere, really! Since there are so many events happening across the city, we’ll focus on a few. Free Museum Day at the National Constitution Center is June 28th, where you can explore our nation’s history and the document that started it all. Explore the financial history of the United States at the First Bank of the United States on June 30th, at the Go 4th & Learn event.
The Wawa Welcome America fireworks also take place on the 30th, on the Delaware River Waterfront. The big July 4th Concert & Fireworks is held from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm on the Ben Franklin Parkway. The concert features performances from Pitbull and Heather Headley.
What’s the cost? The festival sponsors and city have worked hard to make this festival FREE to all those who attend. Museum Week is also free, though some of the participating museums have a “pay what you wish” policy if you’d like to make a donation. Download a festival guide to keep track of all the events.
A Night at the Movies
Along with the above-mentioned events, there are also numerous “Philly @ the Movies” events throughout the city. This is a great way to spend time with friends or family and take in a movie with other attendees, all for free!
Philly @ the Movies events include:
- The Nutty Professor, at the Dell Music Center, June 28th
- E.T., at the Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons, June 29th
- SING, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, June 30th
- Rocky, Philadelphia Art Museum steps, July 1st
- Pitch Perfect, Xfinity Live!, July 2nd
Celebrate America this year at the 2018 Wawa Welcome America Celebration!
