If you’re looking for incredible volunteer opportunities this Memorial Day, we invite you to check out these local organizations. Give back to the community and feel good about helping others on your holiday weekend, and throughout the year.
The Arc of Chester County provides services to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, along with their families. The end goal is to always ensure people with disabilities can live the most self-sufficient life possible.
The organization is always looking for volunteers, whether you’re committing to a year-round or one-day opportunity. Current needs include classroom assistants for the ABBLE program, a classroom-based program in Downingtown for two-year-olds with autism.
Administrative support is always needed, too, for addressing, stuffing, and stamping envelopes. With many special events held throughout the year, volunteers play a vital role in ensuring they go off without a hitch. Contact The Arc for more information about volunteer opportunities.
The Chester County Art Association connects artists, students, visitors, and the community with art. With art instruction and youth summer art camps, there are many ways to get involved with the CCAA. Lend a helping hand to events like a live auction, or help as a part of the summer camp setup team.
Assistance is needed setting up for the camps, hanging plaster covers to the walls, laying out temporary protective flooring, and moving and setting up large wooden tables. Or, you could be a Saturday-morning-helping-hand. Give a few hours of your Saturday for light tasks like replenishing paper products and providing light cleaning of the galleries.
Wings for Success works to provide apparel, advice, and advocacy for women in need. They’ve done so since 1997, and have served almost 12,000 women throughout Chester County and in surrounding areas.
This volunteer-based organization has over 120 active volunteers. Some have been around since the beginning, while others join for specific projects. Wings tailors every volunteer role to your specific interests and background.
Volunteer tasks include office support, transportation for clients, and clothing donation intake. Personal clothing stylists are also needed, to assist clients in building self-confidence while providing work-appropriate clothing. You’ll meet others from the community through these programs, and help to better the lives of women and their families.
